Faulconer delays climate plan update: San Diego mayor to first weigh in on controversial SANDAG tax-increase proposal

Faulconer_240x150April 27, 2016- San Diego Union Tribune -Joshua Emerson Smith reports: The San Diego mayor’s office said Wednesday it will not release its long-awaited strategy for how to meet the city’s greenhouse gas reduction targets until after a vote on a controversial countywide tax increase proposal.

The move comes as environmentalists have drawn a hard line in opposition to the envisioned levy, which they say would confound efforts to cut emissions mandated by the city’s Climate Action Plan that was approved in December.

“At the end of the day, we cannot support any implementation plan released by the mayor unless he votes against this tax measure because it undermines the climate plan’s goals — and he knows that,” said Nicole Capretz, executive director of the nonprofit Climate Action Campaign.
