SDUT: La Mesa hikes effort on local climate plan

July 25, 2016 – San Diego Union Tribune – Karen Pearlman reports: Nicole Capretz, executive director at the nonprofit Climate Action Campaign, told the commission that La Mesa, like the city of San Diego, is legally bound to create a climate action plan.

She said the La Mesa City Council, when it discussed the issue, seemed unclear about the direction it was going with a plan to “stop climate change and protect the people and places we love from the threat of global warming.”

She said the council seemed to be looking at the plan as an “aspirational goal” rather than the legally binding goal that it is.

“I encourage you all to convey to the council the city’s need to comply with the law,” Capretz said.
