City Responds to CAC Report Card Findings: SDUT – San Diego Making Progress with Climate Action Plan

February 28 – San Diego Union Tribune – Cody Hooven letter to the editor – Re Report finds San Diego’s progress on climate plan transportation goals illusory (Feb. 14): This article completely mischaracterizes a recent report card on San Diego’s Climate Action Plan (CAP). Instead of reporting facts along with valid critiques from the report card, the article focused on one sentence of the 69-page document to leave readers with the wrong impression that progress isn’t being made.

We expect to be held accountable, and the report lays out areas for improvement. But it also gave the city the highest scores of any in the region with a gold and bronze ranking for its plan and implementation – calling the CAP “very strong across the board.”

San Diego is a national leader on climate action with a CAP that has bipartisan support from environmentalists and businesses. We’re breaking new ground, learning lessons and setting the example – and we’re only two years into the 20-year plan.

There’s much more work to do – and we’re committed to getting it done.
