Subject: Get Back On Track With our Community Choice Energy JPA Now!
Dear Mayor Shea and members of the City Council,
Get back on track with Community Choice Energy.
Irvine residents are troubled to see that Irvine is falling behind when it comes to developing a Joint Powers Authority (JPA) and Community Choice Energy (CCE) program.
By now, Irvine should have begun negotiating with an interested partner city or cities, by sharing the JPA formation proposal documents, providing presentation and informational resources, and allowing cities time for a minimum of two (2) public meetings to vote on joining us. That has yet to happen.
We know CCE is financially viable and provides the freedom of choice, cost savings, cleaner energy, local control, and community benefits, even during the COVID-19 pandemic and economic recession. The issues we face by not being in charge over our energy future are growing each day, and we grow more at risk from fires, brownouts, and power outages.
An Irvine-led JPA CCE is the better path towards protecting seniors and residents surviving with the help of medical devices, providing affordable rates for families and businesses, and improving our city with clean energy and clean air.
We are depending on your leadership. We cannot delay any further. It is beyond time for Irvine families to join over 10 million other California families who enjoy consumer choice. Please remind staff to do their jobs and make CCE a reality for Irvine!
