The City Can't Sign A Long-Term Contract With A Fossil Fuel Company

San Diegans are committed to tackling the climate crisis.

We deserve a utility that will act as a partner, not an adversary.

SDG&E, and their parent company Sempra Energy are trying to bully the City into locking us into DECADES of expensive, dirty power.

Together, we can stand up for our climate and clean energy future.

Right now, SDG&E is negotiating their contract with the City of San Diego, the gas and electric Franchise Agreements.

It's time to put our community back in control.

Tell Your Councilmember To Put Our Communities First.

Do you live in one of these communities?

Please email District 3 Councilmember, Stephen Whitburn, and share some of these key points:

My name is ______, and I live in [your neighborhood in D3]. Thank you for listening to the community, Councilmember Whitburn. We know that you care about D3 and we're ready to see the City pursue bold climate action.

SDG&E's parent company, Sempra Energy, refuses to be held to any climate targets, including the goals of the Paris Climate Treaty. This is not who we want as a partner.

With the climate crisis accelerating, we cannot afford to lock ourselves into a long term contract with a fossil fuel corporation that refuses to help the City and community meet its climate, equity and public health goals.

Please keep fighting for our future through short term, 5-year electric and gas Franchise Agreements! Thank you for your time.

Please email District 5 Councilmember, Marni von Wilpert, and share some of these key points:

My name is ______, and I live in [your neighborhood in D5]. Thank you Councilmember von Wilpert for standing with the community and calling for a 5-year deal! District 5 stands with you.

SDG&E's parent company, Sempra Energy, refuses to be held to any climate targets, including the goals of the Paris Climate Treaty. This is not who San Diego needs as a partner.

San Diegans already pay the highest rates in the continental U.S. We cannot afford to be locked into a long-term contract with SDG&E.

Please hold the line on a short-term contract for SDG&E with provisions for accountability and affordability. Don't let them lock our community into runaway rates for dirty energy and another bad real estate deal. Keep fighting for us! Thank you for your time.

LEARN MORE ABOUT THE ENERGY FRANCHISE AGREEMENTS

The gas and electric Franchise Agreements will determine:

A) whether we finally have affordable, clean energy or get locked into 20 more years of runaway rates.

B) whether we build a clean energy future or are locked into dirty fossil fuels.

C) whether our government works in the public interest or for corporate interests.
