SAN DIEGO, May 10, 2020 - Climate Action Campaign has been awarded a $40,000 matching grant from the Water Funder Initiative to support communications for the San Diego Green New Deal Alliance.

This project is funded in part by the WFI Water Campaign. With this support, Climate Action Campaign and the San Diego Green New Deal Alliance will be able to build political will to implement the climate solutions our region needs to achieve a safe and livable, zero carbon future for all.

This includes building the awareness, people power, and political will for important water solutions, such as:

  • Green infrastructure, stormwater funding, rainwater capture, water recycling, and water conservation and efficiency.

  • Protecting and restoring coastal wetland habitats.

  • Advocating for the inclusion of blue carbon in climate adaptation and mitigation efforts

  • Adaptation planning around sea level rise and flooding.

  • Restoring and protecting the Tijuana River Valley.

  • Elevating local indigenous efforts to protect waterways.

  • Advancing zero waste initiatives that prevent waste from entering into our rivers, bays, and oceans.

  • Elevating, amplifying, and mobilizing around other water initiatives led bymember organizations focused on water initiatives, including San Diego Coastkeeper, Wildcoast, and the Surfrider Foundation, San Diego Chapter. This communications project, funded in part by the WFI Water Campaign, will allow the Alliance to amplify, educate, and communicate its vision to stakeholders and the broader community.

“We are so grateful for the generous support of the WFI Water Campaign,” says Maleeka Marsden, Co-Director of Policy at Climate Action Campaign and Chair of the San Diego Green New Deal Alliance. “This funding will help the Alliance capitalize on this critical moment to win the policies and programs our region needs to secure clean air and clean water.”
