This is Our Time: We Need Climate Action Here and Now

Updated: Mar 24, 2023

You deserve to live in a clean, safe, affordable, and accessible community. Yet, the recently released Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report indicates we’re failing to make this a reality.

The biggest threat to the community you deserve? Fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions. Our continuing dependency on fossil fuels harms all of us, with communities of concern feeling the impacts first and the worst. Every day we delay action, the faster our planet warms and the larger the negative impacts. We need to act now.

The good news? We have historic levels of investment at the state and federal levels to help pilot, replicate, and scale equitable climate solutions. This is our time to make it happen.

So what’s next? The alarm bells this report sounds are not new—we’ve been effectively working to mitigate these sources of climate change in Southern California for nearly eight years. We’re capitalizing on this game-changing funding by passing effective and equitable policy action – we know what we need to do to stop the climate crisis.

ALL-ELECTRIC BUILDING ORDINANCES

Our reliance on toxic fossil fuels in our buildings threatens the health and safety of families in our communities. All-electric ordinances are key to reaching a zero carbon future.

GRANT MATCHMAKING FOR CITIES

Once-in-a-lifetime federal and state climate funding is up for grabs, but many local governments lack the capacity to research and apply for this funding. We’ll partner with CivicWell on a grant matchmaking pilot program to help smaller, under resourced cities apply for and secure climate funding.

IMPLEMENTING CLIMATE ACTION PLANS

Cities must develop strong, legally-binding, 100% clean energy Climate Action Plans to provide for their developing communities.

REGIONAL CLIMATE TABLES

We’re pushing for regional collaboration because climate solutions, like clean air, clean transportation, and clean energy, cross jurisdictional boundaries.

SAN DIEGO’S REGIONAL DECARBONIZATION FRAMEWORK

We must work together as a region to address the climate crisis and implement solutions centering equity and justice.

SAN DIEGO’S COMMUNITY POWER PLAN

We’re pushing for SDCP to fulfill its mission to provide 100% clean electricity at affordable rates by prioritizing and implementing the solutions identified by impacted communities.

SANDAG’S REGIONAL TRANSPORTATION PLAN

We’re advocating for safe and reliable connections within our San Diego region that provide fast, frequent, affordable, and reliable public transportation and active transportation options such as bikeable and walkable neighborhoods.

Climate solutions mean better health, cleaner air, a more stable economy, and an equitable society.

We are in this fight to win it. Together, we can transform our future. Please keep speaking up and speaking out to every elected official you know. Your voices are more important than ever.
