Fighting For A Zero Carbon Future

In Southern California

ANNUAL REPORT 2020

SINCE OUR  LAUNCH IN 2015, WE'VE BUILT A PLAYBOOK FOR HOW TO WIN BOLD CLIMATE POLICIES IN SAN DIEGO AND ORANGE COUNTIES.

The latest climate science shows that we must double down to stop the worst impacts of the climate crisis. We’re all in.

EXECUTIVE LETTER

“I’m proud of what we’ve built over the past five years, but I know that we must go further, faster to avoid the worst impacts of the climate crisis.

We’re building a roadmap to Zero Carbon in Southern California and we’ll need your help to enact the policies that show what’s possible when our communities rise up for climate, jobs, and justice.”

- Nicole Capretz, CAC Founder and Executive Director

We’re advancing Zero Carbon solutions to protect the people and places we love.

Through our fight for 100% clean energy, we are shifting power from the ground up.

SAN DIEGO'S FRANCHISE AGREEMENT

When the Mayor tried to force through a bad deal that was a giveaway to our monopoly utility, we rose up to kill it, and won. In 2021, we'll fight for the best deal for our climate and communities.

With the launch of the San Diego Green New Deal Alliance earlier this year, we’re joining hands with 50+ organizations to build a grassroots movement for climate, jobs, and justice in San Diego.

Together, we've built four San Diego Green New Deal Working Groups with 80 active community members.

We have a once-in-a-generation opportunity to remake our economy and environment to benefit the safety, wellbeing, and prosperity of everyone.

That’s why we’re rising to win the climate solutions that science demands and fighting for a just transition.

This year, climate justice prevailed at the County.

After a decade of fighting the County of San Diego over their fatally-flawed Climate Action Plans, we finally beat them in court and they've been ordered to go back to the drawing board. With new, climate-champions set to take office in 2021, we're excited to work toward a zero carbon Climate Action Plan for the County of San Diego.

Measure E Ballot

This year, we co-signed our first ballot initiative and it won!

Measure E will help us meet our climate goals by allowing us to build more homes near good jobs and transit, a key climate solution!

ENCINITAS IS GOING ALL-ELECTRIC

We worked with Encinitas to update their Climate Action Plan with a commitment to power new homes and buildings with clean electricity - a key climate strategy!

In 2021, we're ready to #ElectrifyEverything!

With everything on the line, we're leaping forward in 2021.

We're activating new advocates through our Public Health Advisory Council (PHAC), a group of public health professionals committed to winning the fight for clean air and a clean climate.

We added two amazing community leaders to our Board of Directors.

We exceeded our budget goals in 2020, in spite of the COVID-19 pandemic and economic crisis. This was not possible without your support!

Because true climate justice is impossible without racial, social, and economic justice, we're redoubling our commitment to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion (JEDI).

This year, our staff and Board participated in racial justice trainings and we will continue to facilitate them in 2021.

We also updated our strategic plan to ensure we center the fight for racial, economic, environmental, gender, and social justice in our work and operations.

Thank you to our donors.

We would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to our generous individual, corporate, and foundation donors, along with our Leadership Club members. Your support helps us fight for a climate-safe and climate-ready, Zero Carbon future. Thank you for standing with us in the fight of our lives.
