Join our webinar to learn about UC Irvine's controversial partnership with the gas industry to bring a risky hydrogen blending project to the Anteater Recreation Center—threatening health, safety, energy affordability, and California’s climate goals.
Previously, student and community protests stopped a similar proposal targeting Mesa Court Apartments, forcing UCI to retreat. But the new project poses similar dangers: burning hydrogen produces harmful nitrogen oxides, worsening air pollution and respiratory risks, while blending hydrogen into existing pipelines weakens them, increasing the risk of leaks and explosions.
Even more alarming, SoCalGas wants the CPUC to approve $24.4 million in ratepayer funding for this experiment, all while UCI has received $7 million from SoCalGas over the last decade to back projects like this.
